Debt Free  – Testimonial

At the end of September 2010, my wife’s employment contract was terminated and for 6 months she was able to draw Unemployment Benefits.  One day in February 2011 we were travelling through Wynberg and discussed the possibility of approaching a debt counselling agency for assistance.   We looked in the phone book under the most logical place starting with ‘C’ for Credit.

We called the number and spoke to Samantha who referred us to Joy Minnies. We were met with Joy and Mark Minnies who gave us a brief overview of the process and left the decision to us.     

We left and my wife was not comfortable approaching a debt councillor for help as her initial thought was ‘the stigma! ‘.    Obviously at this stage we had no idea what we were entering into. Finally we decided to give it a try and when we received all the documentation, realised that we were locked into the system and there was no turning back.   Mark was confident that we could re-pay the outstanding debt within two years, yet to us this was not a reality.   

We give thanks to the Lord that my wife received a new employee contract just a month after we signed up with Debt Quest. We made sure that our payments were made on-time and this was the key to success.   My wife’s contract was extended for a further 12 months and we were in a position to increase the monthly repayments three times for the duration of the agreement.

It took us 36 months and reflecting back to 2011, we are extremely pleased to have made that decision.   Make no mistake it was tough going and today we are debt free. What a wonderful feeling when we enter a store, the cashier will ask the question ‘Are you buying on account or store care ’?   What a great feeling to say ‘No paying cash’
